What a gas line job actually involves

Most jobs follow the same careful sequence. We start by confirming what you’re feeding and how much gas that appliance demands, because an undersized line starves the appliance and forces it to run poorly. From there we plan the route, pull the permit your municipality requires, and run the line using the right material for the job:

  • Black iron or steel pipe for many interior and exposed runs
  • CSST (corrugated stainless steel tubing), properly bonded and grounded, where a flexible run makes sense
  • Buried polyethylene for underground runs out to a pool heater, generator, or outdoor kitchen

Once the line is in, we pressure-test it and check every joint before it’s connected to the meter or tank and put into service. That test is the part cheaper operators skip, and it’s the part that matters most.

What’s different about gas work on the coast

Southwest Florida is hard on outdoor gas systems. Salt air corrodes exposed steel pipe and fittings faster than it would inland, so lines feeding a pool heater, grill, or generator need corrosion-resistant materials and connections that hold up near the water. On Sanibel, Captiva, and the barrier islands especially, that salt exposure is something we account for on every outdoor run, and it’s why buried poly and protected connections matter here more than most places.

Storm and hurricane season is the other big factor. Standby generators are popular here for good reason, and a generator is only as reliable as the gas line feeding it. I think I smell gas right now. What should I do?
Leave the home right away and get everyone out. Don't flip light switches, use your phone inside, or light anything, since a spark can ignite gas. Once you're safely outside, call your gas utility's emergency line, then call us. We respond to suspected leaks fast, seven days a week from 7am to 9pm.
Do you work on both natural gas and propane?
Yes. We install, repair, and test both natural gas and propane (LP) lines. The two run at different pressures and use different regulators and fittings, so it matters that the work is done by a licensed contractor who sets it up correctly for your fuel type and appliance.
